Apple users are more than familiar with Safari, it being the default web browser for Mac OS. As Apple’s top browser, it also holds a 19.16% browser market share worldwide, being second only to Google Chrome.

Despite its popularity, some of the important features of Safari remain mysterious for some users. In this guide, we’ll make sure that web browsing with proxies is made easy through a step-by-step process.

3. Choose the type of proxy and enter the proxy connection data.

A new tab will open, called “Proxies”. On your left, there is a list of boxes under the section “Select a protocol to configure”.

Check the box that describes the type of proxy you are using. Usually it will be the “Web Proxy (HTTP)” type. Then, on your right, fill the boxes under “Web Proxy Server”. The first, longer box is for the proxy server IP address and the second, smaller box is for the port number.

Both of these numbers should have been given to you by your proxy service provider. In case you need to type in authentication credentials to access your proxy, check the “Proxy server requires password box” and type the username and password in the boxes below.

Frequently Asked Questions

The best proxies for the Safari browser are private proxy servers from well-known providers. Free public proxies will not provide the needed privacy and will most likely be slow due to many people using them simultaneously.

Thus, to utilize a proxy server to its fullest on Safari, one would need to use either residential or datacenter proxies. Both of these proxy server types help to hide your traffic.

Safari is quite a safe browser that uses privacy protection technology to prevent tracking of your online activity. However, on its own, it is unable to guarantee your complete anonymity and privacy. Using a proxy server helps to hide your IP address, making your online activity much safer.

Additionally, proxies can prevent you from getting blocked when making a lot of requests to websites, thus enabling many business use cases. Finally, using a proxy server on Safari would let you access geo-blocked sites.

In order to configure proxy settings for Safari on an iPhone, go to the Settings and select Wi-Fi. Then select the Wi-Fi connection you want to use the proxy server for and click on it.

In the window that opens, scroll down to “HTTP Proxy” and click “Configure Proxy”. If a PAC file for automatic configuration is available to you, press “Auto” and enter the script address for automatic proxy configuration.

If you do not have the PAC file, select “Manual” and then “Server” and enter the address of the proxy server that you want to connect to. If the server requires a username and password, choose “Authentication” and enter the necessary credentials. Tap on “Save” to enable the settings.

This error can be caused either by incorrect proxy configuration or if the proxy server itself is no longer working. In the first case, go over the guidelines above to properly configure the proxy settings for Safari. If that does not help, try contacting your proxy service administrator to make sure that the proxy server is still up.
